Mindfulness while Making – Backgrounds

“Hearts & minds are changing – it is just the season or the storm {which ever way you choose to see it}. The plans you think you had made so carefully, are totally out the window. At times it is exciting, scary and even a little delightful as we find our minds dwelling on the possibilities of this new season: how to embrace change, embrace a different way of thinking, embrace a new way of life. When we open our hearts, minds, and even our doors beautiful things will happen in this season, in this storm we find ourselves in. We are OK – just keep going.

I find myself pushing forward amidst an inking storm – embracing every bit of change, every bit of mess on my table, in my mind and my heart.

I will keep on creating even if it’s just a messy background filled with shimmer and colour. ” ~ Jowilna Nolte

Step 1
Stencil a pattern or design onto white cardstock using Little Birdie Sparkle Paste Blushing Berry. Leave the paste to dry.

TIP: One thing I love about the Sparkle Pastes is that they dry really fast – even on a cold winters’ morning. But I still use a little piece of cling wrap to cover the top just to ensure that my last little bit of paste does not dry out in the tub.

Step 2
You can add some additional ink by using the direct to paper technique with Memento Dew Drop ink pads – I had some of the Memento ink on my background from a previous piece I worked on.

Step 3
Use a pipette and add some Cherry Pink All-Purpose Ink to the cardstock and mist with water to promote movement and flow.

Step 4
Use a paint brush to add some Bright Copper and Black All-Purpose inks randomly, then mist them with water and use the paint brush to move the ink around. Add more colours as desired.

TIP: Because the metallic ink colours are thicker in consistency than the normal colours, a pipette does not really work, so use a paint brush to lift them out of the bottle and apply them to your paper or project.

Leave the inked background to dry normally or use a heat gun to dry.

Now you have a beautiful background to use on a card, for a Project Life pocket or whatever your heart desires.
