I have had a love affair with stamps for the past 15 years. My crafting career started in a stamp store and I was constantly surrounded by those rubber beauties and their inky partners. They are useful and creative tools that have a multitude of functions – and so too there are loads of different ink types available on the market. The secret is to get to know your ink types and what they are designed for – so that the right tool is used for the right application. So we are taking a look at two of Tsukinekos’ popular ink types that I used on my project.

About the project

I used a glassine baker’s bag to create an envelope for a tag shapes card. The outside of the glassine bag was decorated using the beautiful Crate Paper Pretty Party range of papers. I then used my Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate Ink Pad to stamp a sentiment repeatedly onto the front of the Pretty Party Double Sided Paper (Cake Stand). I used my heat gun to set the ink quickly even though I stamped it onto a matte paper. As a focal point I used a docrafts Wellington image punched into a circle surrounded by diamante.

To highlight the edges of the circle punched image I double inked the edges. This means that I first inked the edge with Versamagic Sahara Sand Chalk Ink Pad and the repeated the inking process using Versamagic Cloud White Chalk Ink. The effect is a subtle toned down colour. This is especially useful when the edging around white paper is too harsh – the white chalk ink tones down the brown nicely and softens the whole effect beautifully. Inside my glassine envelope I added a giant tag shape card decorated with the same beautiful papers and stamped wording inside.

Chalk and Brilliance ink pads are favorites of mine for various reasons. Tsukineko has the best of both worlds in that they manufacture high quality ink pads for stampers, scrappers and crafters alike. Knowing your ink pad and what it can do for you is the best thing you will do for your crafting, and it will open loads of creative doors too. So here’s a couple of facts and tips on these ink types:
 

Chalk Ink Pads (VersaMagic Dew Drops)

• They have qualities of several inks in one.
• They are perfect for stamping bold or detail images onto paper.
• A great choice for basic stamping with clear or rubber stamps.
• The Chalk ink shape is perfect to ink tiny areas.
• It is similar looking to a pigment ink but leaves a chalk finish.
• A Quick to medium drying time, soaks into paper leaving a smooth solid effect.
• Colours can be mixed on the paper.
• Not recommended for embossing because of drying time (depending on medium stamped on).
• Crisp images when stamped on matte paper.
• Comes in a variety of shades from pale to vibrant.

 

Pigment Ink Pads (Brilliance Dew Drops)

• Fast drying, embossable ink that is acid free and archival.
• Perfect for stamping onto photos.
• It is water resistant when you heat set it with your heat gun.
• Compatible surfaces include acetate (when heat set), glossy paper, matte paper, leather, polymer clay, photos, ceramic, vellum and wood.
• A water resistant ink when heat set.
• Available in different colours.
