Whether you are a seasoned decoupager (and yes I just made that my word) or someone like me who loves to adhere beautiful paper and cut-outs to objects then it is clear that you love paper as much as I do.
[box type=”info”]Decoupage –n
- The art or process of decorating a surface with shaped or illustrations cut from paper, card, wrapping paper etc.
- Anything produced by this technique.
I have always loved the fact that I can decorate something as simple as a recycled piece of cardboard (or old box) and make something functional and pretty.
So this week I did just that. I used a piece of old cardboard and made something pretty and functional using only a few things I already hand on hand. Here’s how I used my Gorjuss leftovers from previous projects to create something to organize my life a little more and make it just a bit prettier too.
-
Step 1 :
Gather a piece of cardboard and cut it to size. Use your craft knife and metal ruler to cut it slightly bigger than what your note book will be. I also cut some elements from the inside of my Gorjuss paper pack.
-
Step 2 :
Paint a layer of gel medium to your cardboard. Then add your base patterned paper and paint another layer of gel medium on top of the paper. Leave it to dry thoroughly. TIP – if you use an artist quality gel medium it will pull the paper smooth against the base surface. Even if it makes small air pockets and bubbles, avoid the urge to smooth it out with your fingers – the gel medium will take care of it for you naturally. (this does not count for huge air pockets left on your project)
-
Step 3 :
Add your cut out elements in the same way. Paint a layer of gel medium, add your cut outs, and then add another layer of gel medium and let it dry really well before decorating or adding your note pad.
To finish off my decoupage recycled clipboard I added some metal brads, and a decorative bow to my large metal clip. And for a few bucks you have a gorgeous little gift for someone special or for your own use.
And always remember that if you have the basic technique down and some good material to work with, you too can become an expert at decoupage. Happy gluing everyone!
