I love using old book paper in my projects. But what to do with those book covers can be tricky for those of us that are hoarders. So I have started using them as canvasses to create some interesting art works on. One such a piece came together using some of my favourite Couture Creations die cuts. They are so beautifully delicate and no matter what you choose to do with them, they are sure to be a show stopper.

In preparation for the #SecretScrapbookEvent I am sharing just one of the easy ways of how to use your die cuts creatively, grouped together and layered for dimension, to create beautiful works of art.

I cut my shapes out of white cardstock and added colour to them using my painted background as a starting point. So shades of blue and green won at the end of the day.

 

Here’s how I created this piece…

• Step 1

  Die cut two different dies out of white cardstock – I used a flower and a leaf design.
  

• Step 2

  Add colour to the die-cuts using Memento dye inks.
  

• Step 3

  Add shades of blue ink to the flowers and let them dry. Then dip the stems and leaves into green ink to add colour.
  

• Step 4

  Use 3 different acrylic paint colours and paint a book cover. Let dry completely and then add walnut ink crystal splats.
  

• Step 5

  Use walnut ink mist to colour a manilla tag.
  

• Step 6

  Once all your elements are dry, arrange them onto your cover to determine placement. Adhere the elements overlapping each other, layered together to create dimension. TIP: Use a glue gun, Tombow mono-multi glue or foam tape to add dimension to your elements. Or simply leave some parts of the elements loose to add dimension and movement.
  

• Step 7

  Add glitter glue to the coloured flowers.
  

• Step 8

  Use a grey dye ink to highlight the textured edge on the cover. Ink the edges and then blend the ink using your finger or a sponge dauber.
  

And this is just one of the ways to use your wonderful Couture Creations cutting dies. No matter what the project – these cutting dies are perfectly versatile.
