Be My Valentine – Handmade Card Tutorials

Valentine’s Day is looming in the background as we start to gear up for the festive season. But as with all holidays and celebrations this is no reason to ignore it – because before you know it, it will be right here. Is this reason enough to stock up on crafting supplies for this festive day in February – for sure! That’s if you do not want to miss out on all the good crafting stuff available early to make beautiful cards and other love themed crafts.

Next year we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day and our loved ones with my favourite bear Tatty Teddy. docrafts’ Me to You range of papers, card kits, paper packs and stamps are perfect for making little cards and gifts for loved ones young and old. With the huge variety of products available you can make anything from a quick card to a custom designed gift tag card – the possibilities are endless.

Be My Valentine Gift Tag Card

Using the paper packs are so easy, with their beautiful double sided patterns and high quality paper you can fold cards directly out of the papers as I did here. I then cut the folded card into a tag shape, punched a hole and made a reinforce using a scrap piece of paper and hole punch. The front is decorated using a glittered die-cut topper matted onto red cardstock.

As a finishing touch I used elements from the Toppers sheets cut out and raised for added dimension. In the bottom corner I used some red seed beads adhered to my paper using Anita’s 3D Clear Gloss – perfect for more dimension and texture.

Just For You

To make things interesting I combined red and pink patterned papers together for a fresh look. Furthermore I wanted to add some soft elements and the Prima Flowers were perfect. These beautiful flowers will dress up any project, giving it a romantic look and feel. The texture is amazing and most of all the flowers are for recycling into a brooch or used in home décor.

Totally Huggable

With the new docrafts A5 card kits available even the man in your life will be able to make a beautiful card. All that is necessary is to build a beautiful 3D message bear directly onto the card and you are good to go. This is one of the easiest but most impressive cards a person can receive. To add more colour and detail I adhere a piece of patterned paper inside the card that is visible even when the shaped card is closed. For added interest I used one of the tags from the sentiments pack tied with Teresa Collins’ bakers to the front of the bear. On the white card front I adhere small tags cut from the pop out sheet – these tags are decorative elements printed onto the sheet that can be easily cut out and adhere to a card. They are great little fillers.

Adding texture to glittered die cut toppers

On my tag card I used a bear element from the toppers sheet. The bear is glittered and it gives a beautiful effect, but I wanted to add some more texture and interest to the picture part of my card. I added some embossing to the image adding lots of interest and texture. Here’s how…

  • Step 1

Lightly ink the topper using a VersaMark Ink Pad by pressing the ink pad repeatedly onto the card until it is inked up. Make sure to work on a craft sheet or scrap paper. Cover the ink with a layer of coarse clear embossing powder.

  • Step 2

Shake off the excess embossing powder and return it to your container. Because the embossing powder is coarse it will only adhere to selected areas.

  • Step 3

Heat the embossing powder using a heat gun until the granules are melted. The melted powder gives a ‘water like’ effect and a beautiful textured effect and dimension.
