There’s nothing like a cute bear. We can all associate with those warm little fuzzy creatures that climb deep into your heart with a single glance. So when Wellington came across my life’s path I too had to succumb to his charm and elegance. His warmth and charisma was perfect to create a beautiful gift set for a little boy’s room. The product line is classy and elegant yet will delight any little boys’ heart, but best of all it will outlast any age – because you won’t be able to resist Wellington.
Wellington Bedroom Set
I wanted to create some décor elements that would fit into a boy’s room without being too colour and theme specific. The Wellington range of papers has a classic feel with a touch of vintage that makes it elegant and playful without being too overbearing. The old-fashioned overtones fit well in with a natural colour palette with splashes of red, brown and blue. For my main framed project I used a sheet of patterned paper attached to the back of the frame. I used the Cricut Country Life Cartridge to cut a washing line image and layered the clothes in different patterned papers and plain cardstock to pick up on the colour scheme. A few layers of Anita’s 3D Clear Gloss Finish adds dimension to selected areas. The chair image was cut from a sheet of patterned paper from the pack and raised using Pop Dots. To add the name I cut the letters using the Cricut Street Sign Cartridge and layered the black cardstock onto blue patterned paper. The elements used forms a balance between top and bottom with enough ‘white’ space to let your eye take in the beautiful details of the images.
The décor items are grouped together on and above a drawer set where essential items are kept. The frame is grouped together with a large decorated alphabet letter, 3D framed picture, wooden box, decorated q-tip holder and some playful wooden initial blocks.
The decoupage wooden box was covered in patterned papers from the Wellington paper pack, the edges inked and distressed to add to the worn well lived in feeling. The sides of the box lid got a thin layer of acrylic paint and the inside left natural wood to add to the different layers and colours. Inside the box cotton wool is stored to keep it neat and tidy and within arm’s reach.
The 3D frame is a quick and easy project done using a recycled frame bought on sale at a large department store. I simply removed the decorated glass piece and replaced it with a piece of patterned paper and a 3D Wellington Decoupage image. The decoupage sheets are filled with beautiful sayings and sentiments that can be used on cards, tags and even on the décor elements.
The 3D decoupage images are so easy to use as the entire sheet is numbered alongside each image for easy reference. You simply pop out the image and layer them on top of each other to create a dimensional effect. I used Pop Up Glue dots to adhere the different layers together. The dots enable me to manipulate the image to create a true dimensional effect as well as give me enough height without being too bulky.
To finish off my 3D frame I added some microbeads inside before closing it up. These new POP! microbeads from American Crafts are amazing – they come in a huge variety of colours and can be used in a myriad of different ways to add dimension and texture to a project. And boys will just love shaking the frame around when they are older – an instant shaker box to keep the occupied.
