Recently we have been doing some introspection into the way we live and how it affects nature around us. Every week we throw away a good amount of dog food cans. Although these are said to be recycled and used again it brought the idea of how I can reuse and recycle these cans myself. And that is how this week’s project came about – but off course this would be just as bland as it sounds unless you add some Anna Griffin magic into the mix.
With the release of her new embossing folders and the launch here I was very excited to get these beauties in my stash. And so my love affair with embossing and scrapbooking continues…
Here’s how I created my handmade flower vase
-
Step 1:
Remove the paper label and soak the can in water before washing the inside really well and the outside. You may need some Un-du Sticker, Tape and Label Remover to remove any stickiness on the outside of the can like I did.
-
Step 2:
Apply a layer of Pearlescent beige Brilliance ink to the top side of the embossing folder you are using. Place a sheet of white cardstock big enough to wrap around your tin and wide enough in the embossing folder and send it through your Cuttlebug machine to emboss the cardstock. The ink will transfer onto your cardstock. TIP: Because the ink pad has a shimmer to it, this same shiner transferred onto the paper and caused a beautiful effect that can be left as is. I took it a step further and inked across the raised white areas using a brown dye ink pad and applicator tool. This highlighted the embossed areas but also made the shimmer more visible.
-
Step 3:
Add some eyelets to the cardstock where the edges will meet in the front to form a beautiful textured element. You could even thread some ribbon through the eyelets. Finish off the top of your tin with a ribbon.
Alternatively use the container as a pencil holder on your desk – creative and beautiful! These will make nice and economical teacher’s gifts and a quick gift holder for a special friend.
