Stamping on Layouts

The versatility of stamps and their popularity has grown at a phenomenal speed in the last couple of years. And although I have been stamping for years, the novelty is far from wearing off. I love stamps for their versatility, and it’s safe for me to say that there is almost nothing you can’t do with a stamp.

To include stamping into my layouts I use the stamps as a tool to add interesting elements to my layouts. Stamping and other embellishments should have a purpose, a meaning and not just randomly added because there is an empty space that needs filling. Select your stamps carefully to add texture, colour, pattern and decoration to your projects. Knowing your stamps and the additional tools to use with it is ninety percent of your success. If you use the wrong ink type to stamp on the wrong paper you will end up being disappointed and hate stamping. On the other hand if you use stamping effectively in your projects the more you will love and use it.

On my layout I used a large background stamp from the BasicGrey Konnichiwa range. The lanterns are a generic design that can be used in a multitude of different ways and work with different themes. The background stamp is also amazing as a single element used on a quick card.

Adding colour to stamped images

What you will need

Background stamp
White smooth cardstock
White or Clear Zing embossing powder
Large Acrylic Block
Versamark Clear ink pad
Varsamagic Dew Drop Ink pad
Large paint brush
Water
Craft sheet

Step 1

Place the BasicGrey Washi Lantern background stamp onto a clear acrylic block by removing the white backing to reveal the cling side that will stick to the acrylic block. Ink the stamp using a Versamark ink pad. Stamp the image onto the cardstock, hold the cardstock down and carefully remove the stamp from the cardstock.

Step2

Sprinkle the white Zing Embossing Powder over the entire stamped image. Make sure the entire image is covered in powder and shake off the excess. Use a small paint brush to remove any lost specks of powder sticking to areas where is should not be.

Step3

Heat the embossing powder until it turns shiny. Make sure that the entire image is heated and the powder melted. Set the embossed image aside and let it cool for a few seconds.

Step4

Add colour to your image to reveal the embossed images. On a craft sheet add colour using VersaMagic Dew Drop ink pad in the colour of your choice. Lightly press the ink pad onto the craft sheet to transfer the colour.

Step5

Lightly spritz the ink with water. Pick up ink using a large paint brush and apply colour onto the embossed image. I added colour only around the edges leaving the centre white. Set aside to dry and then add it to your layout or card.
