Spotlight Die-Cutting

With all those lovely die-cuts available to us nowadays it is hard to just keep on using them in the same way all the time. Let’s face it, a die-cut is pretty much just a cut and that’s it. Unless you dress it up using inks, techniques and incorporate it into your project differently, it can be rather boring using it in the same way all the time.

This month we are focusing on different ways of how you can either dress up or use your die-cut to make them a bit more interesting.

Today I am sharing an easy ‘spotlight’ technique with you. Not only does it look amazing on cards, but will also add a fun element on a scrapbooking layout.

Spotlighting is pretty much highlighting an area and today we are using our die-cut to do it.

Step 1

Punch different sized circles out of a scrap piece of cardstock.

Step 2

Position the circle stencil onto a plain piece of cardstock and blend some circles onto the background. Use small circular movements with your sponge dauber to avoid lines.

Step 3

Alternate between the 3 colours of ink using a specific sponge dauber with its co-ordinating ink colour to avoid contamination. Blend over other circles to create interesting effects.

Step 4

Place your die onto your stencilled background. Use a piece of washi tape to secure your die and keep it in the right place.

Step 5

Cut the word and carefully remove it from the die.

Step 6

Cut the base smaller and adhere it to the front of a folded card. Use thin foam tape strips and adhere the word back in place on the base. Because it is raised it creates and interesting effect and placing the spotlight on the die-cut word.
