Golden Moments With My Silhouette Printable Gold Foil

This past month I think I have enjoyed my Silhouette even more – the thought of having so many different materials and products that can be cut using the machine is amazing. So after my t-shirt experience I wanted to try the Silhouette Printable Gold Foil. I haven’t had too much success printing onto the foil, mostly because my design is all wrong, so don’t despair a project is on its way just not now.

Instead after a flop or two I decided to just cut the foil and see what I could create. Obviously the more I cut the more it turned into some funky and gorgeous projects, but a quick and simple one was a layout title – create entirely out of a left-over piece after cutting something for a little framed piece of art I am working on.

I had no issues cutting the foil, I simply changed my settings for the right materials and cut – no fuss.

Here’s how I did it…

  • Step 1

Open a new file in the Silhouette software. Remember to change the page size to the correct size of the material you are going to cut. The Printable Gold foil measures 11.5×8 inches. Create the text you want to cut – by changing the paper size first you will be sure that everything will fit onto your page.

  • Step 2

Change the cut settings to the material you are going to cut. Select Printable foil.

  • Step 3

Place the sheet onto your cutting matt. Make sure that the orientation of your page is correct. I set mine to landscape and positioned my foil onto my cutting matt landscape. Load the material into the machine.

  • Step 4

Send the file to the machine to cut.

  • Step 5

Once the file has finished cutting the design, unload the matt from the machine.

  • Step 6

Carefully remove the stickers from the sheet. I had one letter that cut through the backing as well from the entire lot. This isn’t a big issue as the sticker part/gold foil will still peel perfectly from it and can be adhered really easily to any surface.

I love how the gold letters work to easily. I couldn’t resist adding it to a layout made especially for my Mom. In the photograph it looks like black, but trust me it is a gorgeous gold – not too bright adding just enough glitz to my project.

Next up I will share my framed sigh board using the same cut letters in a different way – what a wonderful and versatile product. And then the much anticipated re-do of my work space and some proper printed stickers using the gold foil for organizing my stash. Happy cutting!
