So you’re settling into your new Silhouette Curio Machine nicely and still experimenting wildly – good! While experimenting I was playing around using the Silhouette Curio sketch pens and fell head over heels in love again with this amazing function. Sure I have dabbled with it using the CAMEO, but just did not get into it as much as I would have liked to. But now oh now I am totally hooked on drawing all those beautiful images in my Library and finding new things to experiment with. So here’s some grungy are cards that I whipped up using the Curio to add into some frames I have around the house…
I used various designs to draw onto watercolour paper. I wanted a messy look for these little art works and since I tested the pens and found that they will bleed when they come into contact with water I was up for the challenge – finding the look I love so much.
-
Step 1
When you open your Curio, make sure to insert your sketch pen into holder number 1 (left side when facing your machine). Cut your water colour paper to size and place onto the cutting matt. Load the base into your machine. TIP: Remember to load and unload the base, press the load material button and pull the base out. When you press the button it is like the machine releases it and you can pull it out. To load the base again, simply push it in and until the arrow on the right side of the base plate is lined up, then press the load button again. The Curio loads the base to the exact same place each time.
-
Step 2
Open the Silhouette software cut settings and select the Curio cutting mat. Import the image you want to draw.
-
Step 3
Rotate and size the image to fit onto your mat.
-
Step 4
Select the Silhouette sketch pen in the tool 1 option.
-
Step 5
Send to the Silhouette. Although the bar at the top says it is cutting, it is in fact drawing your image.
-
Step 6
It is amazing to see how the image on your screen ins transformed into a drawn sketch.
-
Step 7
Load your watercolour paper again and draw a second and third image as desired. For my bicycle image I added some wording to the bottom of the image.
-
Step 8
Unload your base plate and remove the drawn image from the cutting mat.
-
Step 9
To create my grungy look I added some inked patches using VersaMagic ink and water. After adding the large colour patches that bled with the sketch pen ink, I added some details using my paintbrush and the VersaMagic ink inside the lettering.
There you have it, an easy way to create grunge sketched art using your Silhouette Curio Sketch Pens!
