I am a huge fan of using art mediums in my scrapbooking. I think my art background has a lot to do with that, as well as being a little otherwise and doing what is not expected. At the same time, I also like clean lines and focusing on my photos rather than cluttering a layout with so much stuff that you can hardly see anything else. So I wanted to incorporate some of the new Art mediums by Prima into a layout, and what better way than to subtly add some pattern and texture using some crackle paste.
I started off by adding some paste through a prima stencil – really simple and effective before assembling my layout. The big mistake most people make is that instead of adding the paste in a soft line, they add it into a definite block with straight lines – this is a basic mistake in designing – so instead of your eye flowing softly across the line, it gets interrupted like a scratchy record.
Here’s how I used the paste:
[custom_list type=”dot”]- For my layout I used Platinum Crackle Paste, a soft cream coloured paste that naturally cracks as it dries.
- I applied the paste lightly through my stencil using a palette knife.
- My thin layer of paste dried quickly with small cracks appearing as it dried. Adding just enough texture and interest for this layout.
- A soft, simple and interesting effect created with the paste – perfect for adding interest onto your layouts without enormous bulk.
- The thicker you add the paste the longer it will take to dry.
- Adding thick layers of paste onto your cardstock will make it buckle and warp uncontrollable.
- A thin layer of paste on cardstock will dry perfectly; the cardstock will relax as it totally dries.
- Crackle paste applied in thick layers can be dressed up with glitter, beads and stamping.
