Celebrations are always big in South Africa – as the saying goes go BIG or go home. So in celebration of National Braai Day or Heritage Day I made this layout using some fun Cricut elements.

I love how the new Cricut Expressions 2 machine enables you to cut a variety of elements at once and in different sizes – it really is quick and convenient. I used the 3 Birds on Parade Cartridge for its fun bird themed elements – and it was the only one with a Braai (BBQ) theme on that I have in my stash currently. I wanted to create a bright and fun layout – something that will show the true colours of the South African nation – our rainbow nation.

Staying true to my scrapping style is always important to me, so even while I have added fun Cricut die-cut elements pieced together I added my signature ink splashes and artistic elements to this page tying things together beautifully. The striking PB&J range from BasicGrey helped me select the perfect bright coloured cardstock pieces to die-cut the different elements out of. I drew inspiration straight from the gorgeous patterned paper and used the red from my photos as accent colour repeated in the title and other embellishments.

Adding texture to my title

Adding my die cut title to a white background would have been very ordinary. So instead I used the Polka Dots embossing folder and my Cuttlebug machine to emboss dots onto the title for some texture. Behind my title I used the amazing new Artiste Dual Tip Brush Markers to add a watercolour splash to the background cardstock. Although hardly visible it makes for a stunning effect on plain cardstock.
