So what is it about scrapbooking products that enables us to merge them together successfully on a single project? The ability to see the various colours inside different collections and paper ranges is what empowers us to combine not only different products together successfully but to create loads of interest.

 

All Right Layout

For this layout I used products from BasicGrey, Prima, Simple Stories and Glitz. The beautiful and vibrant colours from the Simple Stories Fabulous range can be quite intimidating unless you are scrapping little girls. But how can you incorporate those beautiful papers when scrapping boys, puppies, travel and even adult photos?

The secret lies in adding something unexpected. So I grabbed the totally amazing Happy Travels range from Glitz to add some grown up sophistication to my project by incorporating red as an accent colour. The red acts as a middle ground where all the other colours are merged to form an effective mix of bright colours and pretty vintage tones. I wanted my layout to be playful and happy because of the not so happy photos, but to also have that sophisticated vintage look I have come to love. By using different products and different collections together I found the perfect mix for me.

To further add interest to my layout I tilted my photos and elements slightly to create a diagonal line across the centre of my layout. The centre elements are ‘held’ together by creating a top and bottom border sandwiching the middle section. My borders I created by repeatedly cutting the number ‘8’ using the Makin’ the Grade Cricut Cratridge and lining them up to create an interesting and effective border. Quick and easy!
PS. Those photos are really happy photos since they make me smile every time I look at them.

Tips and Hints

• Remember that accent colours do not always have to be the same shade and intensity as that found in the patterned papers used
• By turning your background cardstock over and working on the smoother side, you can stamp and get a nice crisp impression
• Create clusters of elements for impact by grouping things close together like the flowers, leave, giant rhinestone and diamante
• Raise sticker elements for added dimension using the super strength Pop dots. Remember to add pop dots in the centre of your stickers as well to avoid sagging
