Strike A Pose Card

Some of my hunger for new products that is was finally fed with the new Prima stamps and wood embellishments. They are all so versatile and beautiful it’s hard to pick your favourites – right? Well I finally decided to stamp beautiful Lorena Mixed Media Doll and turn her into a card fit for a wedding or a special young lady. Well by now you should know that I really get distracted by the other pretty things that surround me – like the packaging of the stamp. Yip you got it – I pulled the stamp from the packet and there it was, this totally amazing piece of printed backing. So I inked my stamp using Versafine Onyx Black and stamped the image directly onto the backing. BUT because the packaging is shiny and glossy I added some clear embossing powder over the stamped image and heat set it to make it permanent.

• TIP: Versafine will not dry on this type of paper no matter how long you leave it to dry. Heat setting helps a bit but because paper and ink can be unpredictable I don’t take any chances and just emboss it for a quick and more permanent solution. Plus you get that fabulous embossed dimensional look.

I then repeatedly stamped the dress part of the image onto scraps of patterned papers using the same black ink. I cut the dresses apart and then adhered the bits to my base image on the packaging piece. This formed a beautiful paper pieced image. Once I was happy with the result I added some finer details by sewing tiny glass beads to the dress, small punched flowers and even added some detail stitching using thread.

This is one of my favourite cards – it’s funky with some interest and can be used for anything. Next up…a layout featuring Julie Nutting Doll Stamps. How about you?

Good Luck Shadow Box

If you are still reading this article it means you clearly are not as distracted as I was when I first got hold of these tiny little wood laser cut embellishments. I was so excited about the little wooden tray these beauties are packaged in I my buy the entire collection just to lay my hands on the boxes themselves.
So naturally I wanted to include some of the beautiful elements from the kit, and what started off as a nature inspired tray turned into a photo memento that I might like to pop into a beautiful gold over the top frame for a gift – cute hey?

For this project I simple printed an old post card and cut it so that it fits inside the little windows. I did use some Purple Turtle foam to pop up the photos. I then added some simple decorations on top of the photo. I didn’t want to cover up too much of it, so I just added a few elements.

As for the little bird wood element, I coloured it using black Versamagic ink by tapping the ink pad onto the wood repeatedly until the entire piece was coloured. I love easy it is to colour these elements using paint, ink, embossing and Mister Huey inks.

These wood elements are perfect for our South African scrappers – offering designs perfect for those nature inspired pages and memories. They are quick and easy to add interest on any project.
