This week I am sharing how versatile All-Purpose Inks (API) can be in your art journal. I used water as a base for my inks to create an interesting effect on my page and around my stamped images.
-
-
Step 1
Select your three co-ordinating colours of API to work with.
-
-
-
Step 2
Stamp your chosen images onto your art journal page. I used VersaFine for its permanence even when working with water and ink. It won’t bleed or smudge.
-
-
-
Step 3
Use a medium sized paint brush and paint water where you want your ink to be applied and where you intend to colour.
-
-
-
Step 4
Use a smaller paint brush and lift a drop or two of API onto the brush. I started with my light blue first. Lightly touch the water with the paintbrush – the ink drop will immediately let go and follow the path of the water.
-
-
-
Step 5
Let the ink sit for a few seconds and then proceed.
-
-
-
Step 6
Repeat with the second colour, in my case purple. Dip the paint brush into the API and lightly touch the water again to add your second colour. The first and second colours will mix together and form an interesting effect.

-
Step 7
Move on and repeat with your last and darkest ink colour as before. I left my inks to dry naturally to create a really interesting look and effect. Let the ink colours mix and blend with the water naturally.
-
-
-
Step 8
Add some details using a text stamp on your background.
-
-
-
Step 9
Add highlights to your stamped circle images using a graphite pencil.
-
Then add some painted lines across the journaling background to complete your underwater wonderland in shades of blue and purple.

Ek hou ongelooflik baie daarvan. Ek is ook lief vir Mix media en ek kan die tegniek toepas op een van my werke.
