I am sure we are all the same when it comes to celebrations every year. We vow to get a head start and get things done early before the end of year festive season rush. So in lieu of that promise to myself and every other crafter out there, let’s get this party started – let’s get those handmade cards done and posted in good time, make festive tags for gifts and celebrate our creativity.

With loads of new embossing folders on the market, the Christmas themed ones are the most spectacular ones I have seen to date. That’s right, Couture Creations has outdone themselves on the design front. Beautiful Christmas trees, flourishes, words and images can now grace your cards, gift tags, envelopes and so much more.

Here’s how I created a fun effect on my embossed image in a few simple steps.

First I embossed the tree image onto green AC Cardstock. Although the image itself is so amazing I wanted a bit of shimmer to highlight it even more. Now don’t get me wrong, the point of blind embossed images is that they are subtle and classy. So I used my Tsukineko Versamark ink pad and dragged it across the raised/embossed surface very lightly. I then added some pearlescent powder to the inked areas using my finger. To make the powder stick I lightly misted the piece of cardstock with water. The green embossed piece was matted onto red AC Cardstock and then adhered to a Christmas Tidings Pearlescent Card by docrafts. These cards are so convenient and make life easier especially when you are mass producing. My finishing touches include some diamante, a snowman embellishment and a parcel folded out of a scrap of the Christmas Tidings patterned paper and tied with a piece of thread. Quick and easy cards ready for Santa to deliver early this year.

Adding pearlescent powder to your Cuttlebug embossed surface
 

• Step 1

Cut your cardstock to size so that it fits in your embossing folder. Emboss the image onto the cardstock using your Cuttlebug machine.
 

• Step 2

Remove the embossed cardstock piece. Lightly ink the raised areas of the embossed image by dragging a Versamark ink pad across the surface.
 

• Step 3

Use your finger to add some gold pearlescent powder to the inked areas highlighting the embossed image. Lightly mist the pearlescent powder with water to set the powder and prevent it from rubbing off. Now create something beautiful!

Gift tags are one of those useful things that can be made using scraps of papers and embellishments. Tags are great for those frugal moments when you don’t want to start a new project but just want to be creative. So why not beat the rush and make a bunch of tags for your own gifts, but also pack them in packs and give them away as early gifts to friends and family.

For this tag I used the beautiful range of Christmas Tidings A5 Paper Pack. You get a variety if patterned papers in a single pack and they are perfect for cards and tags. To create the wreath, I used a punched circle to guide the placement of my punched leaves. Finishing touches include a snowman embellishment, diamante and sewing for added texture.
