Glitzin’ Up Your Patterned Paper

The inspiration behind this layout is the beautiful range of Glitzin’ Glamour Glitter Glues currently available from The Wholesaler. I love glitter glue for their simple yet functional existence. They are colourful, easy to use and have a multitude of applications.

The beautiful range of BasicGrey, Crate Paper and Kaisercraft patterned papers I chose for this layout works really well together. The papers are bright, fun and funky with a touch of old world charm thrown in. To spruce up the yellow Crate patterned paper I wanted to alter it slightly so I used the antique silver Glitzin’Glamour glitter glue directly on the paper. The glitter leaves behind a subtle layer of glitter chips without being sticky afterwards. The glue dries crisp and clear leaving behind a slight texture feel adding a unique effect to paper.

This is not the only way to use glitter, but it’s a quick and easy way to effectively alter and change the look of patterned paper. And we all know that girls really love shiny things.

I also used the glitter glue to add some glamour to my stamped images. The little ‘house’ images were simply stamped in black ink on white cardstock. Afterwards I used 2 different colours of glitter glue to add a slight shimmer. The glitter glue is applied using my finger to spread the glitter glue all over the images and left to dry for a minute or two. And that’s how easy it is to glam up your project without going overboard.

How to add glitter to your patterned paper

Step 1

Gather your supplies. You will need a sheet of patterned paper, a rubber brayer (roller) and Glitzin’Glamour glitter glue in the colour of your choice.

Step 2

Squeeze a small amount of glitter glue onto your patterned paper. Rather start with a small amount and then add more to get the desired effect. Tip: It is always harder to remove a product when you use too much in a technique but easy to add more if you need to.

Step 3

Use the rubber brayer (roller) to spread the glitter glue across the patterned paper. The glue dries fairly quickly and sets the glittery bits in the glue adhering them to the patterned paper. The paper is now covered in a beautiful shiny layer adding loads of interest.

Tips

This is a great way to spice up old and new patterned paper
Combine 2 or 3 colours of glitter glue on the same piece of paper using this technique – this way you will create a multi-coloured effect
Tired and dull looking patterned paper will get a new lease on life by adding some glitter to it using this easy to do technique
Don’t have a brayer! Don’t worry – try using an old plastic tumbler with straight edges or a kitchen roller. And if all else fails a paintbrush will do the trick too. Simply paint the glitter in even strokes in one direction and leave to dry
Remember to wash your brayer immediately after adding the glitter – once dry the glue and glitter bits are rather stubborn in being removed from the rubber
