I often forget how versatile Gel Medium really is – not only is it a great adhesive for art journals and mixed media projects, but it’s also great for other techniques.
Gel Medium Resist Technique
Gel medium is a great resist for water-based paints, inks and mists. I often create backgrounds for mixed media and art journal pages using gel medium and water-based inks.
Stamp some circles using a finger dauber dipped into gel medium (matte) onto white cardstock and leave to dry.
Once the gel medium is dry, use a paint brush and All-Purpose ink and paint over the gel medium background.
Mist a soft cloth with water and then wipe over the circles to wipe any ink on them clean. The gel medium creates a beautiful resist effect.
Gel Medium Glitter Technique
An easy way to stencil with glitter is to mix it into Heavy Gel Medium and stencil with that. When it dries the base is clear and the glitter creates an amazing effect. Such a fun and versatile effect.
Mix a small amount of Heavy Gel with glitter using a palette knife. You want to mix it really well.
Then stencil the paste mixture through your chosen stencil design. Remove the stencil carefully and leave to dry.
Once dry, use your stencilled piece in your art journal, on cards or layouts.
Gel Medium Shimmer Technique
Use your pigment powders mixed in Gloss Gel Medium to create a shimmery paint effect.
Mix a small amount of pigment powder with Gloss Gel Medium.
Paint the mixture onto white cardstock shapes. Leave the paint to dry between layers for a more solid effect. The pigment powders create a beautiful paint that will add a shiny finish to any of your projects. So easy and versatile.
