Decorating for the festive season shouldn’t be stressful. This year I am using what I already have plus maybe a few extras to create beautiful and meaningful decorative elements that will fit right into my home effortlessly.

To create my bunting base I used a combination of smooth white AC cardstock and patterned papers from Kaisercraft and Lady Pattern Paper. The two worked well to give me a vintage feel that is still vibrant and exciting.

To add interest to my base I used different embossing folders to add instant texture to the flags. I simply cut the pieces to the size I wanted and adhered them to the white cardstock, and then embossed them – giving me a firm base that has loads of texture on it. I did not necessarily use Christmas embossing folders, but rather things I already had and love.

For my other elements I added some die-cut flowers and leaves. I used packaging and paper to die-cut the elements giving me a nice array of patterns and different weights adding to the interest.

I love how I can add odds and ends, things that are floating around on my desk or just hanging out waiting to be used – and then a project like this comes around and things just fit perfectly.

Being creative to me, is when things naturally happen like they did here: A pile of stuff finding a home together with a myriad of other elements, and forming a complete something new.

To add some wording to my bunting I used the funky alphabet set from Celebr8 to spell ‘believe’. I added some colour to them and then a layer of glaze. And for my missing letter ‘E’ I simply turned the 3 around and used it as and E. This project is one of my favourites so far – loving the colours and textures and the simplicity of using the things I have at hand.

So be challenged and inspired to create and use the things you have at hand, so that you can buy the stuff you really want and need. And yes that includes the coveted embossing folders and dies that you will use over and over again!
