Creating Art with Celebr8 Stencils

I love stencils. And with the new local Celebr8 range things just got a bit easier and so very very inspiring. I have used this range of stencils with mist products but one of my favourite artistic looks using stencils is to create dimension with them. So for this layout…let’s go and explore a bit how I created my background effect using the awesome spilled Coffee stencil.

Celebr8 Stencils - Tooth Layout

I started with a base of 3D Matte Gel and then mixed some gorgeous Prima glitter into the gel in a small plastic tub. I added quite a bit of glitter to the gel and then mixed it in really well using my palette knife. The more glitter you mix into the gel the nicer and more colourful the effect will be. If you only add a small amount of glitter, then the gel will be more transparent with only some flecks of glitter scattered into the gel as it dries. Because the gel dries translucent the effect is truly magical – adding texture to your project but without the heavy dark and intense colour of paint and ink.

Here’s how to add the stencilling to your cardstock

  • Step 1

Add some gel medium to a small plastic tub. Pour some glitter directly into the gel.

  • Step 2

Use your palette knife to mix the glitter into the gel medium. The gel medium will change colour because of the glitter when it is mixed into the gel. The gel will still dry translucent and keep the glitter as the colour.

  • Step 3

Position the stencil onto your project carefully. TIP: Use a small strip of washi tape to tact the stencil in place so that it does not move while you are stencilling.
Spread the gel medium over the stencil design evenly until the entire design you want is covered. Carefully remove the stencil and let the gel dry.

  • TIP: Make sure to clean your stencil and palette knife immediately after using it with the gel – if this dries on your stencil and tools if becomes rock hard and will be very hard to remove. Small pieces of gel drying in the stencil design will affect your design when you next want to use it – especially when you just want to ink and blend colour through it. Looking after your tools, caring for then and cleaning them properly will give you a life-time worth of use.

Enjoy creating with your Celebr8 Stencils!
