Create Texture Using Found Objects – Jowilna’s How To

I love looking for things to use when creating. For me the most obvious is finding things that I can stamp with – with my love of stamps and inks that is just so natural. The other day I was going through a bunch of randomness around me and this cake moulding piece just had to be experimented with. It is soft and mouldable and has a great pattern so actually it translates into a stamp doesn’t it?

So off I went on a little play date to create amazing patterns and textures for my next lot of projects.

  • Step 1

Using Memento LUXE, ink the mould only partially using your lightest colour first. I used Peanut Brittle.

  • Step 2

I placed my paper on top of the mould and lightly rubbed over the surface with my hands.

  • Step 3

Carefully peel off the paper to reveal your stamped pattern.

TIP: I used old book paper here, but the result is even more spectacular on white cardstock. MementoLuxe has such an amazing effect with its chalk-like look and feel and the old book paper enhances this even more.

  • Step 4

Ink the mould again with a darker colour. I used Espresso Truffle, without even cleaning off the Peanut Brittle. I don’t mind the bit of contamination that may occur as I simply wipe it off from the surface using a baby wipe. This also makes some of the Peanut Brittle transfer with the Espresso Truffle giving an even more interesting effect.

TIP: Cross-contamination of light colours onto dark ink pads is not as serious as dark colours onto light coloured ink pads. Light coloured ink pads are more difficult to clean and maintain in general so keep this in mind.

  • Step 5

Stamp the image again as previously placing the paper face down onto your mould and lightly rubbing over the surface with your hand.

TIP: This way of stamping takes a bit of planning because you can’t see where you are stamping. But with a bit of thought and trial and error, you can create amazing effects. And a bit of experimenting makes for amazing art too.

  • Step 7

Ink your mould with Teal Zeal ad stamp again.

  • Step 8

These 3 colours of inks look amazing and give a beautiful vintage theme perfect for those travel projects don’t you agree?
