Couture Creations Fisherman’s Cottage

With themed die-cuts making waves in the crafting world being creative has become so much easier. No surprise then that I was inspired by the beautiful nautical dies by Couture Creations to create a fun fisherman’s cottage – a little dream get-away from home – just to escape the everyday…

I used a pre-made kit of the little house but add some fun decorative elements to make this skeleton a beautiful worn and homely abode.

I started off by adding texture paste through a wood-grain stencil. The entire outside was painted in a dark brown acrylic paint. The fun starts with the roof construction.

Step 1

Die-cut the trellis design out of dark brown and light brown cardstock. You will need several cuts to cover the roof.
Step 2

Adhere the frame to the roof, cutting sections and adhering them to fit the surface.
Step 3

Adhere the inside cut out pieces using foam tape to the frame parts. I used the lighter shade of brown for this making it stand out beautifully, adding dimension and depth.
Step 4

Die-cut the anchor and steering wheel out of white cardstock.
Step 5

Ink the elements using VersaMark ink and then sprinkle with dark brown embossing powder. Use your heat gun to heat the embossing powder until melted.
Step 6

Let the element cool down and then emboss with dark green and blue embossing powders to create a patina look.
Step 7

Emboss another layer with some copper embossing powder only sprinkled here and there.
Step 8

The final layer of embossing is done using clear embossing powder.

For the boat steering wheel emboss in a layer of blue embossing powder, and then ink it again using VersaMark and only sprinkle a small amount of copper embossing powder. Heat set the copper powder to create a well-worn element.
