Christmas Mixed Media – Jowilna’s Advanced Class

For the festive season, I love creating little projects that can be displayed on a tree, around the home and simply enhancing the festive atmosphere – but still have loads of interest. Today I am sharing this cute little star that I made measuring 14cm in diameter perfect as a Christmas tree element or gift topper.

  • Step 1

Trace a star onto patterned paper and cut out.

  • Step 2

Foil some leaves using the GoPress and Foil machine using gold foil. I created three embossed twigs to cut up and use on my star.

  • Step 3

Cut out the twigs and then trim them as necessary into smaller pieces to layer.

  • Step 4

Adhere the patterned paper star onto a piece of cardboard for dimension and cut out. Use a sewing machine to add stitching detail around the edge. Adhere the gold foiled twigs onto the star base using Gel Medium. Add a small amount of Gel onto the star using a palette knife and then adhere the foiled twigs. Repeat until happy with the look. Leave to dry.

  • Step 5

Smear Gel Medium onto the star and adhere flowers and a punched circle. Add Gel Medium to the rest of the star and sprinkle with Crystal Rain Drops, pearls and other elements. The Gel Medium adheres these elements with a really good bond making them permanent.

  • Step 6

Adhere the flowers using Gel Medium. Add a small amount of Gel Medium to the back of the flowers using a palette knife and place in position. Leave them to dry.

  • Step 7

Add black, white and gold paint splats to the finished star for a fun effect – this breaks the starkness of the paper and elements adding a nice finishing touch.

And in a few easy steps you have a Christmas mixed media piece ready to be used in your Festive gift giving and decor.
