I love simplicity as much as I love a beautifully detailed project with lots going on. But for me the question is always, what can I take away instead of add, and does something really have a purpose? Which brings me to one of my favourite things to create. A quick and easy project using inks, and texture – something pretty on a piece of recycled wood.
I created this fun repurposed wall art block using some of my favourite colour inks and flowers I made myself. Next time I will show you how I created these stunning flowers and share a secret with you…
-
Step 1
Use a stencil of your choice and apply texture paste through it onto a piece of wood.
-
Step 2
Once the texture paste is dry, paint the entire piece of wood with black gesso. Leave to dry completely.
-
Step 3
Use a combination of All Purpose Inks and Pigment Powders to add colour to the black base.
Start off by dropping ink onto the base using a pipette, one colour at a time and mist with some water to make the ink spread out. Add a couple of drops of the second colour and mist again. Use a soft paintbrush and drop some pigment powder directly onto the wet inks. Then use the brush to paint and spread out the powder. Leave to dry. Add more inks and powders as it dries until you are happy with the effect.
-
Step 4
Create your silk foam flowers and adhere onto the block. Tuck some twine under the flowers for fun. Decorate the rest of your block using diamante, chipboard elements and anything your heart desires.
Keep it simple and make the beautiful texture shine alongside these gorgeous flowers that you can make yourself. And use your favourite things – everyday!
