I love that saying.. .you know the one where you can get more for your money than what you paid. I try and apply this principle to all my scrapbooking and crafting stash. If I am going to spend money, I want to use it in a multitude of ways to get the most value out of it. So I really do think twice before I spend my money or someone else’s money for that matter.

This brings us to technique month using your die-cuts. I want to show you and inspire you to use your products in different ways, making sure you can justify that purchase, whether intentional or impulsive.

 

Fill the gap with colour

This is a simple but effective way of using your die-cuts on a layout or card.

• Step 1

  Cut the word out of white cardstock. Keep the insides of the letters like the e, d, b etc.



• Step 2

  Adhere the cut out portion to patterned paper, inked scraps of paper or plain cardstock with a nice bright colour.



• Step 3

  Use your glue pen to add a small amount of adhesive to the insides of the letters like the b and e. Then use a wax crayon to lift the small white cut out pieces and place them onto the coloured background inside the letters where they belong.

Step 3

Dress up the surrounding areas using ink splats, embellishments and stamped wording. Turn this piece into a card or use it on your next layout for a fun visual element or title.

Ombre dimensional title

With this title I used my die-cut title and some of my All Purpose Inks to create a fun look. I also created some dimension by layering die-cuts on top of each other… here is how I did it

Tip

• Step 1

  Use a word die and cut several of the same words out of white cardstock. I cut about 9 of the same words.



• Step 2

  Use a glue pen and adhere all the words together to create a fat dimensional word.



• Step 3

  Use All Purpose Inks to add colour. Carefully drop the colour onto the die cut word. Work with one colour at a time. Drop a single drop of colour onto the word and mist lightly with water so the ink can run and bleed further into the paper. Use a clean ink dropper and then add a single drop of your second colour of ink. Mist with water again and let the ink blend into the first colour. Continue adding ink and water until the entire word is coloured.

Leave the ink to dry and then cover the word in a layer of dimensional glaze to finish it off.

Here you can clearly see how fat and dimensional the title word is, as well as the blended ink colours.

 

And there you have it, 2 fun ways of how you can use a single word die-cut to create fun effects by altering die-cuts for cards and layouts.
