I love watercolour effects and with the All-Purpose inks and some watercolour paper it so easy to achieve that wonderful effect in a few easy steps. The way the ink reacts with the water is simply magical.
Step 1
Gather your API colours you want to use, a watercolour panel and a nice large soft paint brush and a water cup.
Step 2
Open all your API bottles to have them ready to use. Use the paint brush and paint a layer of water over the entire panel.
Step 3
Dip your paint brush in the lightest colour and lightly touch the ink to the water. The water makes the ink spread all on its own creating an amazing effect. You can help the ink along and paint the panel to fill the edges.
Step 4
Add your next colour of ink, in this case the light pink, and then move onto the dark pink. Each time before I add the next colour I add more water by painting the water in the area below where the colour has ended. The water naturally moves the ink downwards to help with the flow of the next colour.
Step 5
Add your light purple and then the dark purple.
Step 6
Even the lightest of touch of the tip of the paintbrush will disperse the ink into the water and creating an amazing effect.
Step 7
Drop some coarse salt onto the surface and leave the ink to dry. Notice how the salt absorbs the ink and water and changes colour. When the ink has totally dried the salt leaves a beautiful shimmer on the paper as well as a gorgeous effect.
Step 8
Wipe off the salt carefully when the ink has dried. You will see some salt crystals that stays behind on the paper and creates a beautiful shimmer.
