When everything you touch turns to a big old mess and you end up destroying more projects than what you actually create. Sound familiar? Yes it does \u2013 and I am honest enough to admit it happens to me too. Here\u2019s some of my top tips of how to overcome my creative block without any fancy trips to the mall or spending loads of money on stuff I will never use or create with.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>Re-organize and clean<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first thing I do is clean my work space and organize all those bits and pieces that have been accumulating over the last couple of weeks. A clean work space enables me to start something new anytime I am ready, while a big mess clutters my mind and creative vision. I also often discover things I have been looking and rediscover product I have forgotten about. I also like to change some of my d\u00e9cor items and even re-decorate my work space at times. I keep this minimal and only use things I already have on hand or paint that is in the store room already.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>Purge when you buy<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I have set this new rule into motion in my life both personally and creatively. When I buy something new I have to give something else away \u2013 this avoids clutter and also cleans my mind and workspace at the same time. If I buy something I really want I have to give something to someone else that either needs it or can utilize it better than what I can. I have been wanting some storage trays and was lucky enough to be given some by a friend, and in exchange I could offer her something that she needed and wanted to organize her work space. This all happened through conversation and without spending money.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"media\" ref=\"magnificPopup\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Overcome-Your-Creative-Block-Paint.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Overcome-Your-Creative-Block-Paint.jpg\" alt=\"Overcome Your Creative Block Paint\" class=\"gallery_full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>Rest and re-store<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Creative block happens when you are tired and worn out \u2013 it\u2019s as simple as that. Knowing that you will be creative again is sometimes not enough and we try and force the issue. Just walk away&#8230;for now. Take a well-deserved break and watch a movie, vegetate on the couch, go for a walk, flip through magazines or take cat naps. Trust me your body tells you what you need and if you obey your creativity will be back in no time at all. You need time away from it all and it doesn\u2019t have to cost money \u2013 sitting outside and just enjoying God\u2019s creation will do wonders.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>Do something different<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When I get into a creative slump I usually need to paint something, anything! I always have paint on hand be it for furniture or canvas \u2013 but I can always throw paint at something and just let it be. The beauty is that even if I fail at the outcome I can always go back and paint over it again or try something else \u2013 nothing ventured nothing gained. Just get out of your comfort zone and try something else for a change \u2013 it sparks other ideas and creativity with little effort \u2013 it just happens.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"media\" ref=\"magnificPopup\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Overcome-Your-Creative-Block-Make-it-Pretty.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Overcome-Your-Creative-Block-Make-it-Pretty.jpg\" alt=\"Overcome Your Creative Block Make it Pretty\" class=\"gallery_full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>Use your senses<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pick up a magazine and flip through it! When was the last time you touched and felt paper and ink instead of flipping through pages on your tablet? Instant gratification has become such an integral part of our lives that we have forgotten most of where we come from. Magazines are still a huge source of inspiration. It slows us down and makes us think and read and wonder \u2013 rather than speeding up your life take a moment and reflect rather than rush, create rather than just turn things out because you have to. Venture outside and just slow things down a bit.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>\n<h2>art washes away from the soul, the dust of everyday life &#8211; Picasso<\/h2>\n<\/h3>\n<p>These are simple things, but they are the things we tend to forget. I started off my career in retail working in a paper shop importing handmade speciality papers from japan, Canada, India and America. We also imported a range of rubber stamps (PSX), along with Ranger Products, and Tsukineko to mention a few. This was all back in 2000. I moved to the wholesale part of the business and got involved in window dressing and opening a second flagship store for the company while the owners were overseas. I have travelled extensively to America visiting CHA and Frankfurt Germany to their biggest paper trade show \u201cPaperworld\u201d where I gained valuable knowledge regarding the industry. After a whirlwind love affair with the business I headed off into the sunset to fulfil my second dream by working in publishing. I started off as Technical Editor on a scrapbooking magazine and worked on several other craft publications in the company as well. But this was not enough \u2013 after a long journey I started my own scrapbooking magazine, which transformed into writing a real book book as opposed to a magazine book, and the rest is history. I am currently a best-selling author in the craft industry with my book \u201cScrap-Boek\u201d being the fourth best seller in South Africa and currently in second print. I am a freelance artist doing work for various companies such as Caxton Magazines that includes Rooi Rose and Bona Magazine to mention a few. I travel regularly to various shows teaching and presenting lectures on scrapbooking, card-making and creativity. I have been published several times in American publications such as Taken Ten Magazine, Catch Up Issue \u2013 both Somerset Publications. I was also asked to be a guest artist by Taken Ten Magazine for one of their issues in which an entire article was dedicated to my work. In December 2011, I made my television debut by presenting Christmas Crafts on 3 Talk with Noeleen. After a bit of a sabbatical with my on-line classroom website Scrapcouture, we are busy revamping it with a fresh new approach to bringing creativity and new techniques to people all over the world. Other than that I spend lots of time scrapbooking and making cards and teaching classes weekly in Gauteng as well as throughout South Africa. I am passionate about what I do and I have had many amazing experiences and met so many famous people throughout my creative journey. I started off my career in retail working in a paper shop importing handmade speciality papers from japan, Canada, India and America. We also imported a range of rubber stamps (PSX), along with Ranger Products, and Tsukineko to mention a few. This was all back in 2000. I moved to the wholesale part of the business and got involved in window dressing and opening a second flagship store for the company while the owners were overseas. I have travelled extensively to America visiting CHA and Frankfurt Germany to their biggest paper trade show \u201cPaperworld\u201d where I gained valuable knowledge regarding the industry. After a whirlwind love affair with the business I headed off into the sunset to fulfil my second dream by working in publishing. I started off as Technical Editor on a scrapbooking magazine and worked on several other craft publications in the company as well. But this was not enough \u2013 after a long journey I started my own scrapbooking magazine, which transformed into writing a real book book as opposed to a magazine book, and the rest is history. I am currently a best-selling author in the craft industry with my book \u201cScrap-Boek\u201d being the fourth best seller in South Africa and currently in second print. I am a freelance artist doing work for various companies such as Caxton Magazines that includes Rooi Rose and Bona Magazine to mention a few. I travel regularly to various shows teaching and presenting lectures on scrapbooking, card-making and creativity. I have been published several times in American publications such as Taken Ten Magazine, Catch Up Issue \u2013 both Somerset Publications. I was also asked to be a guest artist by Taken Ten Magazine for one of their issues in which an entire article was dedicated to my work. In December 2011, I made my television debut by presenting Christmas Crafts on 3 Talk with Noeleen. After a bit of a sabbatical with my on-line classroom website Scrapcouture, we are busy revamping it with a fresh new approach to bringing creativity and new techniques to people all over the world. Other than that I spend lots of time scrapbooking and making cards and teaching classes weekly in Gauteng as well as throughout South Africa. I am passionate about what I do and I have had many amazing experiences and met so many famous people throughout my creative journey.
