Nothing frustrates me more than having a craft knife where the blade keeps on falling out all the time \u2013 yes you know the type and you know how frustrating it can be. Having a really good set of tools makes life so much easier \u2013 just ask a frustrated crafter stuck with a really bad tool.<\/h3>\n<p>So today we are taking a look at a really amazing set of basic tools. Not only are they pink, they work like a charm. I fell in love with the new Couture Creations Tools the minute I used them. It\u2019s kind of \u2018you don\u2019t know what you are missing, until you use them\u2019 feeling. I was happy using my faithful old craft knife I have had for 10 years, but once I used the Couture Creations craft knife I realized just how comfortable the grip was and I am never looking back.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>These are some of my favourite tools<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/Essential-Tools\" title=\"Essential Scrapbooking &#038; Craft Tools\">Self-Healing Cutting Mat<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Scrapbooking on the road has always been a problem for me. So you need to take a mat to cut on and work on but carrying around a big bulky thing is not my idea of fun.<br \/>\nHere are the facts that swing my vote in favour of this little number.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u2019s pink and black \u2013 and will suit my mood perfectly<\/li>\n<li>The pink side of the mat is great for positioning darker shades of cardstock on and cutting straight<\/li>\n<li>You can fit a 12 inch page on it and still have room to view the measurements<\/li>\n<li>It is marked in inches and centimetres \u2013 perfect for our market<\/li>\n<li>It fits into a travel sized bag no problem<\/li>\n<li>You can use the funky scallop edge and trace it to create a custom border<\/li>\n<li>You can even cut angles on cardstock using your mat<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s really durable and will take a beating for years<\/li>\n<li>It is self-healing so will look good along with the rest of your tools for years to come. So as a scrapbooker I like having a mostly neat work area all colour coded (I wish). But I really love having tools that look good. But most importantly they function like a dream.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The craft-knife has a really good cut. The grip is comfortable and leaves a clean cut on papers and cardstock. No unsightly edges left behind after cutting even through thicker cardstock<\/li>\n<li>The blades are easily removed and replaced and are readily available<\/li>\n<li>I love that the scoring tool has a bigger surface. This makes it perfect for adding large rub-ons to a project and perfect for scoring thicker cardstock<\/li>\n<li>This is a great tool for burnishing smaller surfaces<\/li>\n<li>The piercing tool is really sharp. The thin sharp tip allows you to make even the tiniest of holes for sewing purposes, avoiding those large gaping holes visible even after sewing with thin thread<\/li>\n<li>The tip runs at an angle going slightly wider towards the end making it possible to make a bigger hole should you need to<\/li>\n<li>This is an awesome little set and even if you have just this in your travel bag you will be able to do almost anything with it<\/li>\n<li>The tools are really well made, sturdy and won\u2019t bend under normal use. Sanding the edges of my photos is still a firm favourite. I love the way it makes a photo pop against a dark matt, and having a great tool for the job is a must have.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u2019s coloured coded girls! This makes life so much easier and takes the guessing out of the grit of sandpaper you want to use<\/li>\n<li>The different colours is a quick reference from smooth to coarse<\/li>\n<li>I love the foam base of the tool. Once I have used it \u201cup\u201d I can see loads of potential for this piece of foam. Being frugal and recycling is a must and a possibility. I can see myself using the foam for stamping \u2013 use acrylic paint added to the foam and you have a great stamp for altered arts, layouts and cards. Daubers have been around for ages but have only in the last couple of years come to their full potential. They can be used for a variety of things\u2026.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use daubers to ink the edges of your papers and cardstock<\/li>\n<li>Use them on stamped images to apply Decorating Chalks<\/li>\n<li>Use them with acrylic paints to stamp with and create texture and pattern<\/li>\n<li>They can be used to blend inks together to avoid harsh lines on projects<\/li>\n<li>When you use daubers for inking store each dauber used for each colour in a small zip lock packet to avoid contamination, and only use that dauber for the intended colour<\/li>\n<li>When daubers are well used, do not try and wash them, but rather replace them. A well-worn and used dauber will shed its sponge and will become a frustration. Basic tools are a necessity and will enable you to do just about anything. <\/p>\n<p>Looking after your tools and maintaining them is another way of making your tools last for years. I use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/General-Adhesives\" title=\"General Adhesives\">Un-du Sticker, Tape and Label Remover [U 01004-20]<\/a> to clean the tips of my Piercing tool, scissors and craft knife when they are dirty or sticky. I also use it to remove any glue off of my Cutting mat to ensure it is clean for my next project. It makes such a difference when your tools are well kept and respected \u2013 in return they will you give you years of happy crafting time. I started off my career in retail working in a paper shop importing handmade speciality papers from japan, Canada, India and America. We also imported a range of rubber stamps (PSX), along with Ranger Products, and Tsukineko to mention a few. This was all back in 2000. I moved to the wholesale part of the business and got involved in window dressing and opening a second flagship store for the company while the owners were overseas. I have travelled extensively to America visiting CHA and Frankfurt Germany to their biggest paper trade show \u201cPaperworld\u201d where I gained valuable knowledge regarding the industry. After a whirlwind love affair with the business I headed off into the sunset to fulfil my second dream by working in publishing. I started off as Technical Editor on a scrapbooking magazine and worked on several other craft publications in the company as well. But this was not enough \u2013 after a long journey I started my own scrapbooking magazine, which transformed into writing a real book book as opposed to a magazine book, and the rest is history. I am currently a best-selling author in the craft industry with my book \u201cScrap-Boek\u201d being the fourth best seller in South Africa and currently in second print. I am a freelance artist doing work for various companies such as Caxton Magazines that includes Rooi Rose and Bona Magazine to mention a few. I travel regularly to various shows teaching and presenting lectures on scrapbooking, card-making and creativity. I have been published several times in American publications such as Taken Ten Magazine, Catch Up Issue \u2013 both Somerset Publications. I was also asked to be a guest artist by Taken Ten Magazine for one of their issues in which an entire article was dedicated to my work. In December 2011, I made my television debut by presenting Christmas Crafts on 3 Talk with Noeleen. After a bit of a sabbatical with my on-line classroom website Scrapcouture, we are busy revamping it with a fresh new approach to bringing creativity and new techniques to people all over the world. Other than that I spend lots of time scrapbooking and making cards and teaching classes weekly in Gauteng as well as throughout South Africa. I am passionate about what I do and I have had many amazing experiences and met so many famous people throughout my creative journey.
