Colour is a funny thing. The one day you can love loads of it and the next you need something a little calmer with less colour. I on the other hand love colour and patterns \u2013 lots of different ones thrown together and mixed up. Enter Amy Tangerine scrapbooking goodies distributed by The Wholesaler. You are either going to have a love affair with it or hate it \u2013 it\u2019s that clear cut \u2013 or so I thought. It seems that there is a middle ground to be found in between all that quirkiness and bright colour.<\/h3>\n

\"Lennon<\/a><\/p>\n

I love the designs and playfulness of this range of papers and embellishments. They are fun and the potential for creating both \u2018grown-up\u2019 as well as child friendly layouts are endless. So out I set to create a double page layout using some of my friend\u2019s photos of a recent trip to the Lennon wall in Prague. The photos were perfect but the attempt at that double page layout was just too much. So I lost the right side of the layout and had a perfectly happy single page filled to the brim with colour.<\/p>\n

Take a closer look<\/h2>\n

\"Mister<\/a><\/p>\n

I used a patterned paper as my background and wanted to add some graffiti looking elements to it, so I used my Mister Huey inks to create some fun effects. For the blue I added Mister Huey directly to my craft sheet and pick up some colour using a pan scraper. I then used the pan scraper to apply the ink directly to my paper in long and short streaks creating graffiti looking lines. You can combine a whole lot of colours together for a fun look. For my ink splats I added some Mister Huey ink to a recycled eye dropper bottle. Pull some ink into the eye dropper and then high from above my background paper let the ink drop creating fun and unpredictable splats on your paper. A couple of stamped image onto the Mister Huey inked bits and I am done. It really is simple and fun. <\/p>\n

\"Rosettes\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Now that I have added my bit of graffiti I created layered areas on my layout. I create some rosettes using patterned paper and raised the larger of the two rosettes using pop dots for extra dimension. <\/p>\n

\"Stickers\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The beautiful range of stickers and canvas elements work great together. I used different designs overlapping each other and surrounded by a myriad of colourful buttons. <\/p>\n

\"Paper<\/a><\/p>\n

The printed design element was cut from the background paper and added to the left side of the layout underneath the matted photo. Note how the inked graffiti design adds to the layout rather than overwhelming the entire design. It acts as a grounding element repeating the turquoise found in the rosette and sticker elements. The buttons in return creates a flow from left to right and lets your eye flow across the page seamlessly. To finish of my layout I added a title and journaling.<\/p>\n

\"BasicGrey<\/a><\/p>\n

For matting my photos I used some of the patterned papers and plain patterns from the Basic Grey Serendipity paper pad. I love how the colours work together with the Amy Tangerine papers, and although they are not the same shade their tones is a perfect fit for each other. The 6×6 paper pads are so cost effective \u2013 not only for making cards but for scrapping on the road. Plus you have loads of colours and patterns together in one place \u2013 just the way I like it.<\/p>\n

How to create the streaky colours using Mister Huey’s Colour Mist<\/h2>\n

\"Streaks<\/a><\/p>\n

Spray a small amount of Mister Huey’s Colour Mist – Water Cooler (Aqua) onto your craft sheet. Then lightly mist the ink with water to soften it up. Remember that the colours are really intense so what you see is not really what you get \u2013 so test it on a small scrap of paper first.<\/p>\n

\"Streaks<\/a><\/p>\n

Use a pan scraper to lift some of the colour by dragging it through the ink. The ink will sit on the pan scraper. Remember that an old credit card or plastic gift card will work just as well \u2013 whatever you have at hand.<\/p>\n

\"Streaks<\/a><\/p>\n

Then quickly in a swift motion, wipe the pan scraper across the paper or cardstock to spread the ink. Lift your hand in a quick motion to end the spreading of ink. Repeat the process as necessary or until you are happy with the look and leave it to dry. You can repeat the process several times and in different colours for a beautiful grungy effect \u2013 just leave your inks to dry in between each colour application to avoid contamination.<\/p>\n
