Vinyl is the one thing we all want to cut and the thing is it seems so simple &#8211; well according to some people. Well I have some news &#8211; it\u2019s a nightmare and addictive all at the same time &#8211; when you finally get it right!<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>So here\u2019s what I know about Silhouette CAMEO Vinyl in short:<\/h4>\n[custom_list type=&#8221;dot&#8221;]\n<ul>\n<li>Vinyl cuts a lot easier than paper \u2013 when you get it right<\/li>\n<li>Vinyl can cut right through the backing paper if you do not change your settings &#8211; Adjusting the cut setting to vinyl under the \u201cmaterial type\u201d may not always be enough<\/li>\n<li>You will probably have to change the blade to a setting of \u201c1\u201d and you will have to change the depth that the blade cuts too &#8211; this needs to be tweaked and will differ with different colours of vinyl as I learned the hard way<\/li>\n<li>It is always best to do a test cut, than rather jump in head first and waste a lot of precious vinyl<\/li>\n<li>Cut the vinyl straight to have a straight edge for loading into your machine &#8211; even better get the vinyl roller tray for your machine!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a ref=\"magnificPopup\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Silhouette-CAMEO-Vinyl-chirstmas-sign.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Silhouette-CAMEO-Vinyl-chirstmas-sign.jpg\" alt=\"Silhouette CAMEO Vinyl Chirstmas Plaque\" width=\"1500\" height=\"2087\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Silhouette-CAMEO-Vinyl-chirstmas-sign.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Silhouette-CAMEO-Vinyl-chirstmas-sign-216x300.jpg 216w, https:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Silhouette-CAMEO-Vinyl-chirstmas-sign-768x1069.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Silhouette-CAMEO-Vinyl-chirstmas-sign-736x1024.jpg 736w, https:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Silhouette-CAMEO-Vinyl-chirstmas-sign-1320x1837.jpg 1320w, https:\/\/www.thewholesaler.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Silhouette-CAMEO-Vinyl-chirstmas-sign-600x834.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>About my project<\/h2>\n<p>I used this beautiful tree from the Silhouette shop to cut out of red vinyl. I adhered the vinyl to a wooden plaque that had quite a few bumps and imperfections on it so the vinyl is a bit wonky &#8211; but that\u2019s OK. I prepped my board with a layer of green and black Milk paint and then added some clear wax on top to give it a rich smooth and silky finish. The wax really makes the milk paint pop.<\/p>\n<p>I did not have transfer paper for the vinyl so I used the next best thing \u2013 clear sticky book cover plastic. Here\u2019s how I use it to transfer my vinyl onto my board.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Step 1<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<p>Cut the vinyl on the Silhouette. But first you need to take these steps<br \/>\nChange the rollers on your machine to the width of your vinyl \u2013 refer to the inside of your machine or your manual on how to move the rollers. Once the rollers have been set load your vinyl.<br \/>\nRemember to load the vinyl without a cutting matt. Carefully hook the vinyl that is not part of your design and remove it<br \/>\n<a ref=\"magnificPopup\" 4<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<p>Cut a piece of transfer paper or clear book cover to the size of your backing piece<br \/>\n<a ref=\"magnificPopup\" 5<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<p>Cover the vinyl cut image with the transfer media<br \/>\n<a ref=\"magnificPopup\" 6<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<p>Peel off the transfer media from the backing paper \u2013 the cut vinyl image will pull of the backing paper along with the transfer media. Place it onto the preferred surface like a wooden plaque. I started off my career in retail working in a paper shop importing handmade speciality papers from japan, Canada, India and America. We also imported a range of rubber stamps (PSX), along with Ranger Products, and Tsukineko to mention a few. This was all back in 2000. I moved to the wholesale part of the business and got involved in window dressing and opening a second flagship store for the company while the owners were overseas. I have travelled extensively to America visiting CHA and Frankfurt Germany to their biggest paper trade show \u201cPaperworld\u201d where I gained valuable knowledge regarding the industry. After a whirlwind love affair with the business I headed off into the sunset to fulfil my second dream by working in publishing. I started off as Technical Editor on a scrapbooking magazine and worked on several other craft publications in the company as well. But this was not enough \u2013 after a long journey I started my own scrapbooking magazine, which transformed into writing a real book book as opposed to a magazine book, and the rest is history. I am currently a best-selling author in the craft industry with my book \u201cScrap-Boek\u201d being the fourth best seller in South Africa and currently in second print. I am a freelance artist doing work for various companies such as Caxton Magazines that includes Rooi Rose and Bona Magazine to mention a few. I travel regularly to various shows teaching and presenting lectures on scrapbooking, card-making and creativity. I have been published several times in American publications such as Taken Ten Magazine, Catch Up Issue \u2013 both Somerset Publications. I was also asked to be a guest artist by Taken Ten Magazine for one of their issues in which an entire article was dedicated to my work. In December 2011, I made my television debut by presenting Christmas Crafts on 3 Talk with Noeleen. After a bit of a sabbatical with my on-line classroom website Scrapcouture, we are busy revamping it with a fresh new approach to bringing creativity and new techniques to people all over the world. Other than that I spend lots of time scrapbooking and making cards and teaching classes weekly in Gauteng as well as throughout South Africa.
