Inked Mixed Media Heart

Everybody loves the look of Mixed Media projects. The trouble is that not many people know how to approach it, where to start or what to use. And for others, it is what to do with the projects once you have created them. Let’s face it, we all only have so much space where we can display stuff.

In this series of inked and Mixed Media projects, I am showing you how easy it is to create these amazing projects without getting impatient or despondent, but also some ideas on displays and what to do with these creations.

This heart has been around for years and has also had many different jackets. Yes! That’s right I recycle my Mixed Media projects. I change them up every couple of years and even move them around the house to a different location, or even give them away. Simply by changing them up – they look totally different.

  • Step 1

Over my painted, waxed and stencilled heart, I stencilled some arrows using my Kaisercraft stencil and Little Birdie Mixed Media Paste.

  • Step 2

Once the paste is dry add some colour. I painted the textured surface with All-Purpose ink in Black Pearl. Then added some black and gold with a paint brush and heat set with my heat gun. These 3 colours together work so well and looks amazing.

  • Step 3

Paint chipboard stars with gold All-Purpose ink and leave to dry.

  • Step 4

Adhere and layer flowers onto the dry heart using Little Birdie Gel Medium. I apply the gel quite think onto my flowers and then place them in position.

Once you are happy with the placement leave to dry for permanent adhesion.[/bsf-info-box]
  • Step 5

Adhere sequins with Gel Medium. Use a palette knife and add small sections of gel to the heart and sprinkle with sequins. Leave to dry.
Use 3D Clear Gloss and add a layer of gloss onto the stars. Leave the creation to dry and then add additional tags and twine to hang up your heart.

And just like that, in 5 steps you have created a basic Mixed Media project for your home, family or friends.
