Creating a resist watermark – Jowilna’s How To

Most beautiful effects and techniques happen by chance. This tag was one of those moments when I used a different product and when layered with another, it created a stunning effect. So today I am sharing a gorgeous watermark effect with you.

  • Step 1

I combined Memento LUXE inks with VersaFine Clair ink using a stencil to create a fun background effect.

  • Step 2

Stencil the Christmas tree onto a plain tag using Pistachio Memento LUXE ink and a sponge dauber.

  • Step 3

Use your green Shady Lane VersaFine Clair ink with the direct to paper method and ink over the stencilled tree. The Memento LUXE resist the VersaFine Clair ink and creates a beautiful resist tree image, much like a watermark effect in the background.
I could have used my Watermark ink pad for that, but this was a happy accident and I love the look.

  • Step 4

Stamp Christmas trees onto white cardstock using VersaFine Clair and cut out. Layer the trees onto your tag. Punch small stencilled stars into circles and adhere to your tag. Add a stamped sentiment, embellishments and ink splats to finish off your tag.

By combining different ink types, you can create stunning effects. The more you play and experiment the more you will become familiar with your ink types and what end results you may achieve. Pull out those inks and start getting creative.
