Layering different types of inks on top of each other is one of my favourite things to do. If you understand inks and how they work, then you will understand how the different types will create gorgeous effects when layered on top of each other. For this little index card art piece, I used some of my favourite inks layered on top of each other for spectacular results.
Apply some white texture paste through a stencil onto a piece of recycled cardboard. Leave the paste to dry completely.
Once the paste is dry, use a blue Memento LUXE ink pad and gently rub the ink pad in soft circular movements across the surface to add some colour.
Use 2 colours of All-Purpose Inks and drop the colours one at a time onto the cardboard using a pipette. Mist the ink with water and let it run and mix together.
Add a few sprinkles of Walnut ink crystals onto the wet ink and lightly mist with water to activate the crystals.
Once the ink is dry, add some gold Delicata ink on top. Lightly swipe the ink pad across the surface in circular movements. TIP: Make sure your inks are dry so that the colour does not transfer onto the gold ink pad.
Use a paint brush and splat some white All Purpose Ink onto the background. Give the ink a light misting of water to make the ink flow and run.
Decorate using washi tape strips, sewing and a sentiment sticker.
The layering of all these different ink types gives a wonderful end result. Think how amazing this would look on a canvas. The gold Delicata ink reacts with all the other inks giving this piece a wonderful shimmer overall.
How will you layering inks together? I started off with my favourite colour combination lately – teal, navy, purple and brown. Go on give it a try.
