Oh Baby Girls – DIY Baby Shower Ideas For Little Princesses Part 2

Gift giving plays a big part when it comes to baby showers. Not only will baby be receiving gifts of her own, but often times little thank you gifts are given to guests for attending. Showing appreciation is an integral part of human nature.

Ready-made gift bags can be dressed up and decorated using the most adorable embellishments, but you can also make your own gift bags using pretty papers that will match your theme and colour scheme. Tiny little treat bags with a small thank you gesture, dressed up simply and elegantly will be the real treat in between all the hustle and bustle of the new mommy to be.

DIY Baby Shower Ideas - giftbag

This store bought gift bag was dressed using a chipboard themed border strip. The neutral colour is perfect with just a hint of pink.

To dress up my chipboard…

  • Step 1

Ink the chipboard using a pigment ink by lightly tapping/pressing the ink pad repeatedly onto the surface.

  • Step 2

Once inked, add a layer of dimensional glaze to the surface.

  • Step 3

While wet, add a light sprinkling of pink glitter to the glaze and leave it to dry. Once dry, shake off the excess glitter and adhere it to your surface for a fun and festive look.

Making your own treat bags using patterned paper is quick and easy and always an option if you can’t find what you are looking for.

  • Step 1

Calculate the size of your bag. I measured the height I wanted the bag to be (about 15cm) and then added about 5cm to that for the base of the bag. Cut your patterned paper 20cm in height. Keep the width of your paper (30cm). Fold the paper into 3 parts so that the two ends slightly overlap each other.

  • Step 2

Add double sided tape to the bottom portion and adhere the overlapping section.

  • Step 3

Measure 5cm from the bottom edge and score a line all the way through.

  • Step 4

Fold the bottom scored line open and burnish the sides so that they are lying flat.

  • Step 5

Use your bone folder and fold the flaps in half towards the centre. Use double sided tape, or washi tape to adhere the two joins together to seal the base of your bag.

  • Step 6

Score a 1cm line down the side of your bag. This will determine the gusset and width of your bag.

  • Step 7

Fold the gusset inward to create the bag. Now you are ready to decorate the bag and fill it with sweet treats and small gifts.

I added a wax seal detail to the front of my bag and filled the bag with small chocolates and tissue paper. Perfect as a little gift bag for all the guests placed on the table as part of the decoration.

Another quick idea is to fill recycled glass jars with some sweets as a little thank you gift. Paint the lids of jars in pink and add a decorative handle to the top. Add a die-cut to the bottle and fill it with coloured sweets to match your décor. The jar can be used afterwards as pretty storage for q-tips in the bathroom, storing cotton wool in the nursery etc.
